Key Responsibilities:

 

We are looking for candidates who is responsible for pre-planning of installations and removal of cranes & hoists into projects. The incumbent also maintains and organizes all technical information within the company relating to our equipment. Candidate to be customer service focused and driven to meet or exceed expectations of customers both internally and externally. The candidate must possess excellent verbal, written, and communication skills as well as an in-depth knowledge and application of standards and regulations pertaining to our specific industry.

The Engineering Technologist must be a team player with the ability to prioritize incoming projects and timelines. They work with the operations and sales teams to champion change in all aspects of the business. A strong focus on developing operational efficiencies at the pre-planning stages are a primary responsibility of this position.

 

Qualifications

 

Sales Scope:

  • Assist sales staff with communication to their clients how best to fill their crane and hoist needs.
  • Create detailed drawings to help our staff and the clients identify and avoid potential future problems, such as possible clash points as the building is being constructed. This usually requires showing the crane on several floor levels with information from civil, survey, architectural, and structural drawings in addition to field information recorded during site visits. Update drawings as projects near to accommodate for existing site conditions.
  • Review projects with the technical sales representative and based on that accurately provide all technical information and drawings necessary for our staff to make help the client their decisions.
  • Include detailed information in our drawing sets to accurately show our intentions to the client, their engineering support, and Bigfoot field staff when they are performing their work. This will include dimensions, weight, or forces of our equipment on structures that may need additional support, travel paths, zoned out hook swing areas of the jobsite, or warning sign locations on our crane jibs. This information is a legal requirement and therefore must always be accurate.
  • Update our drawings when changes are made. Final drawings are also used to communicate the plan to Bigfoot operations personnel.
  • Provision of crane zoning package drawings that can be used to illustrate the areas where cranes are restricted from slewing or hoisting on sites.
  • Reviewing hoist orders with the sales and operations team and placing them with the manufacturer. This will also include confirming the accuracy of orders when they arrive.

 

Operations Scope:

  • Create documents to assist operations personnel with communicating “the plan” to our staff and subcontractors, allowing them to do their work safely and efficiently.
  • Create lift plans and method statements including mobile crane information to determine factors like “critical lifts”.
  • Create or update trucking plans for mobilizations allowing for different crane configurations, axle weights, road restrictions and site conditions. This includes type of truck or trailer required for each load, times at site, direction of travel; may include load plan to prevent axle overloading.
  • Organize and maintain all original manuals and technical bulletins correlating to each piece of equipment both physically and electronically.
  • Update and maintain tower crane and hoist electrical drawings to ensure they are an accurate representation of what is installed on the equipment.
  • Update and maintain the tower crane and hoist schedules including the location of equipment and components.
  • Visit jobsites to take field measurements to update drawings and plans with actual measurements.

 

Safety and Compliance:

  • Prepare drawings and plans that apply our safety policies and procedures as the priority.
  • Become familiar with all WorkSafe, TSBC, and industry regulations that pertain to our scope of services and equipment.
  • Take part in industry regulation reviews and meetings regarding tower cranes and hoists.
  • Develop systems to work within government regulations for product lines and regions.

 

Building and Lands:

  • Producing shop and yard drawings as required to ensure we are as organized and operating as safely and efficiently as possible.

You bring these skills/attributes to the job:

  • Excellent 3D AutoCAD skills and general understanding of building drawings.
  • Keen understanding of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Keen understanding of mobile cranes, tower cranes, and rack and pinion elevators.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills. Understanding of workflows and ability to create efficient processes.
  • Independent problem solver. Capable of making decisions in real time to maintain efficient flow of work.
  • Experience dealing with equipment manufacturers and assessing technical bulletins.
  • Construction site experience – take real world measurements and add them into equipment placement drawings.
  • Efficient use of computers and programs such as MS Office, CRMs, Dispatch system and fleet management software.
